Due Date (in class): January 18th, 2001 (11:00am)
Percentage overall grade: 3%
Penalties: 20% off a day for late assignments
Maximum Marks: 10

Take a look at the familiar Computing Science Department web page (http://www.cs.ualberta.ca).

How can we improve this page? In this assignment you are required to design a new web page for the Computing Science Department. Draw your design on paper and indicate the functionalities and options available on the front page. Ideally, you should draw your design using a drawing software. You are not asked to implement it in HTML. However you could do so and print it if you wish (see assignment 2).

The current Department web page is certainly functional and one can argue that it is simple to use. However, it is too simple and doesn't look professional. The front page of a web site is always is important whether for a Computer Science Department or a private company. You never have a second chance for a first impression. The front page is the window to the world. Think about designing a professional front page that dives a good impression and a good idea about our Department.

In you design, indicate how the other pages would flow from the first page. In other words, discuss the navigation issue.

Hint:

You can look at other University and CS Departments' web pages. Here are some links:
