John Walcott, 60, is a solid GAYP player from Barbados who dominated checkers in a five-year rein prior to the rise of current world double champion Ronald "Suki" King in the late 80's.

A former national champion, he took part in a Marion Tinsley invitational event between 1988-89 held at the International Checker Hall of Fame in Petal, Mississippi. Since then he has played in only two U.S. Nationals without making a major impression. These are the 1993 GAYP and the 1996 Three Move Restriction tourneys.

Walcott is an ex-Deputy Post Master General and remains a top local player in an arena where GAYP still is the dominant style of checkers.
