Conference Location

The ADHOC-NOW 2010 events will be held at the University of Alberta Lister Conference Centre (map) which located at the University of Alberta campus in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The University is adjacent to the Edmonton River Valley. August is a month with plenty outdoor activities in the Edmonton area, including the famous Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival. Accomodation Options

Conference participants are asked to make their own individual travel and accomodation arrangements.

On-site accomodation facilities include:

Lister Centre Schäffer Hall: Hotel style single rooms with private washrooms, telephone service and high speed internet access.
Lister Centre Dormitory Accommodations: Traditional dormitory style accommodation in single or twin with shared washrooms.

Additional accomodation close to the venue location are:

Campus Tower Suite Hotel (map) within walking distance to confeence venue.
Varsnona Hotel (map) on Whyte Ave., approximately 5 min by car/bus from conference venue.
Mettera Hotel (map) on Whyte Ave., approximately 5 min by car/bus from conference venue.

A number of downtown hotels are a walking distance from Light Rail Transit stations at the North side of the river (the University campus is to the South of the river). The Univeristy and the Health Sciences LRT stations are within walking distance from the conference venue.

Getting There

Information about getting to Edmonton can be found on the Greater Edmonton Destination Planner website. If you are arriving at the Edmonton International Airport (YEG), which is 29 km from the city centre, there are a few options available to you for transportation into the city.

Sky Shuttle: the Sky Shuttle travels between the airport and many hotels around the city, including the U. of Alberta Lister Center. A one-way ticket on the Sky Shuttle costs $15. More information, including schedules and stops, can be found on the Sky Shuttle website.
Free hotel shuttles: some hotels operate free shuttles for guests. A list of hotels that provide this service is maintained on the Edmonton International Airport website.
Taxi: taxis are available on the arrivals level of the airport. Rates for taxi rides to and from the airport are fixed based on zones. The complete zone map lists all fares for Edmonton; travel to downtown is $48 one way.
Rental cars: rentals from Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty, and National are all available in the parkade, level P1.
