About

I received Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India, in 1995, M.Tech. in Computer Science from Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, in 1997, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia, USA, in 2003. After having two years of postdoctoral research and a year of industrial work experience I joined the Department of Computing Science, University of Alberta in 2006, where I am a Professor now.

My research is in computer vision, image analysis and visual recognition with deep learning. I am interested in medical imaging and general computer vision applications including classification, recognition, semantic segmentation, object tracking, image registration and motion detection.

My professional activities include serving as a General Co-chair for AI/GI/CRV conference in 2017, Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (2013-2017) and IET Image Processing (2016-), reviewer for NSERC DG and CRD grants.
