Wu, Q., Boulanger, P. and Bischof, W. F. (2008). Bi-layer video segmentation with forward and backward infrared illumination. Proceedings of the ACM International Conference on Multimedia, Vancouver, October 27-31, 1025-1026.

In this paper, we investigate two ways of employing infrared video with color video for automatic foreground-background video segmentation: forward infrared (IR) illumination and backward IR illumination. Forward IR illumination gives an initial foreground template, which is combined with image segmentation to complete foreground segmentation. Two algorithms are explored, Graph Cut and Relaxation Labeling. The disadvantage of forward IR illumination can be compensated by backward illumination.
