Barcelona, 2010

Fuego played four 9x9 games against the professionals. There was a marked contrast between the games with Black and with White. Foego did very well with White, winning against Chou 4 Dan and achieving a won position (but eventually losing) against Chou 9 Dan. In contrast, the games with Fuego as Black were one-sided losses right out of the opening.

Fuego also played two 13x13 games against the 6 Dan amateurs, losing both games. A common theme of all lost games was the problem of multiple concurent evaluation errors, such as the "two safe groups" problem. A detailed analysis of these games and of this problem is in the technical report: M. Müller. Fuego-GB Prototype at the Human machine competition in Barcelona 2010: a Tournament Report and Analysis. Technical Report TR 10-08, Dept. of Computing Science, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, 2010.
