603 Students: Before I get started, remember that reading assignment #3 is due tomorrow (Wednesday). Paper 2 is due in two weeks. Due to the compressed timeline, adherence to deadlines is critical. Every minute you are late gives your fellow students one less minute to work on the next phase. Don't wait until the last minute. Plan ahead. Do not expect leniency or mercy. Here is a timeline; details are on the website: Nov 12 6pm: Title and abstract submitted Nov 12 7pm: Bidding opens (time approximate) Nov 14 2pm: Full paper submitted electronically Nov 14 2:55pm: Full paper submitted hard copy Nov 14 6pm: Bids submitted Nov 16 6pm: Each PC should select a chair who will contact Mike by this time. Nov 19 3pm: Meeting of PC Chairs only Nov 19 6pm: Reviews due Nov 21 6pm: Author rebuttals due Nov 26 3-5pm: PC meetings. This will require preparation over the preceeding days. Poster and in-class presentations will occupy the following weeks (see schedule online for details). The links and information you need for paper 1 have been put on one page: http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~c603/paper2.shtml Submission instructions for Paper #2 ------------------------------------ - Pay special attention to step 5. - Your title, abstract, and TRACK must be electronically submitted by November 12th. Simply follow the instructions below except the part about including a PDF. - I recommend doing this early in case you have problems; "I couldn't get it to work" won't get you sympathy. - Electronic copies should be submitted by 2:00pm on November 14th. - Hard copies should be placed in the submission box as for paper #1, by *2:55pm* on Nov. 14. The general instructions for paper #1 still apply. Please check that email again for details; in summary, PS or PDF; try to use LaTeX; do not put your name on the paper; DO put your name on the submission page; create an appropriate title (not "paper#2"). To submit Paper #2, follow these steps: 1. Point your browser at: http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~c603/paper2.shtml 2. Click the "Which Track" link to determine if you are a "capulet" or a "montague". Remember this information. 3. Go back and click the "submission page" link. 4. Fill in the web form. Include title, authors, abstract, etc. Click the "browse" button to locate the file containing your paper. (If you are not submitting the paper and just submitting title and abstract, skip the browse part but make sure everything is filled out). ******************* NOTE NOTE NOTE ********************** 5. Under "Submission Category", select which track you were assigned to. If you are a capulet, select "capulet". If you are a montague, select "montague". No, really, PLEASE DO IT CORRECTLY. IGNORE ALL OTHER INSTRUCTIONS AND JUST DO WHAT IT SAYS HERE. ********************************************************* 6. Finally, click the "submit" button. 7. If there were any errors processing your submission (eg, too many pages, wrong file format), they will be displayed on the next page. Otherwise, the page will indicate that your submission was successful. You will also receive an email regarding the status of your submission. For successful submission, this email will contain a passcode that allows you to modify your submission. 8. If you need to modify your submission, return to the page identified in step 1 and "Edit Submission" or go directly to http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/c603start/www/paper2/. Then, enter the passcode that was included in the confirmation email. You will be able to modify all the pertinent information you entered. You may also view the PS or PDF file you previously submitted, and you may submit a new file if needed. If you run into any difficulties with submission or have questions about the paper, please let me know. Cheers, -Mike
