603 Students: This email is long, and I apologize for that. It contains very useful information, however, so read carefully. I am sure that immediately after class and the first year welcome last night, you all went home and worked through the night on your first paper because you were so excited. So, I have prepared your online conference and your submission instructions. For those who haven't finished yet :), the actual paper is due on October 10th, but remember that you need to send me the title and a PDF of the paper (or even better, a link) by next week Wednesday. Other reminders: * Reading assignment #1 is due Monday. You do not have to write anything, but you should come to class familiar with the paper and prepared to discuss it. * The truth has come out - WebCT's technical people have informed me there was actually a problem with the query they were using to add students to the Ethics Module. They expect it should be working for all of you today or tomorrow. If it is not working for you by 5pm tomorrow, please let me know. The links and information you need for paper 1 have been put on one page: http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~c603/paper1.shtml This email will be available from http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~c603/emails.shtml Without further ado: Submission instructions for Paper #1 ------------------------------------ * Please submit your paper as a a Postscript (PS) or Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The paper must be no more than 6 pages in length. These constraints are enforced by the submission system. * We strongly recommend that you generate your document with LaTeX, but this is not enforced. * Please remember that we are running a double-blind review process. DO NOT INCLUDE your name or other identifying information in your paper. * Please DO enter your name and other information in the form on the submission page. This will not be shown to the reviewers. * Please create an appropriate title for your paper and DO NOT name it "CMPUT 603 Paper #1" or anything similar. * Please submit a draft of your paper early so any problems with the submission procedure can be addressed well before the deadline. You CAN update your submission as many times as you like until the deadline. * The deadline for submission is Wed. Oct 10th at 2:30pm. There will not be any extensions. To submit Paper #1, follow these steps: 1. Point your browser at: http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~c603/paper1.shtml 2. Click the "Which Track" link to determine if you are a "jet" or a "shark". Remember this information. 3. Go back and click the "submission page" link. 4. Fill in the web form, including the Title, Authors, and Contact information. Click the "browse" button to locate the file containing your paper. Paste your abstract into the space provided. The title and the abstract will be used during the bidding process (when reviewers select which papers they would like to review). 5. Under "Submission Category", select which track you were assigned to. If you are a jet, select "Jet". If you are a shark, select "Shark". I will be double-checking to ensure everyone is in their assigned track. 6. Finally, click the "submit" button" 7. If there were any errors processing your submission (eg, too many pages, wrong file format), they will be displayed on the next page. Otherwise, the page will indicate that your submission was successful. You will also receive an email regarding the status of your submission. For successful submission, this email will contain a passcode that allows you to modify your submission. 8. If you need to modify your submission, return to the page identified in step 1 and "Edit Submission" or go directly to http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/c603start/www/paper1/. Then, enter the passcode that was included in the confirmation email. You will be able to modify all the pertinent information you entered. You may also view the PS or PDF file you previously submitted, and you may submit a new file if needed. If you run into any difficulties with submission or have questions about the paper, please let me know.
