From msmit@cs.ualberta.ca Fri Oct 12 23:47:34 2007 Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2007 23:47:34 -0600 (MDT) From: Michael Smit To: c603-announce@ugrad.cs.ualberta.ca Subject: review sample & detailed review instructions Dear c603 students: A link to a sample review has been added to the Paper 1 page on the c603 website. Please do not use it as a rigid template, but rather as a guide when writing your own review. It provides some guidance on how the advice in reading assignment #2 applies to paper 1; reading that assignment is a prerequisite for making sense of the sample. As I mentioned earlier, you can log in and view the review form. It contains several parts: - you will assign scores in the 1-10 range for the 8 categories named in the paper 1 spec. - you are asked to give an overall score. This score should be consistent with the rest of the scores, though it is NOT an average of the rest of the scores. - you are then asked to make a recommendation - reject, weak reject, neutral, weak accept, accept. I have talked about these at length in a previous email; allow me to just add that this recommendation should also be consistent with your overall score. There is no set range and no fixed mapping, but to give you an idea (yes, they overlap): 7-10: accept 5-8 : weak accept 4-6 : neutral 3-5 : weak reject 1-4 : reject - The detailed comments is where you will provide the written review (as described in the sample review and the other resources we have sent you). - "Confidential Comments for Committee" -> In this mock conference, there is no committee. It is possible that no one will ever see comments written in this section, so you should write your comments in the 'detailed comments' section. For paper 2, this field will be relevant. Happy reviewing. :) Cheers, -Mike
