Lab 3 is up, but there is one "heads up" I'd like to toss your way.
In the block diagram, there is a KB_READER unit. This is just the
KB_INPUT vhdl module (as in lab2), plus all the PADs for it's inputs.
note, however, that the "extra" pad at the far left of the block diagram
on pin 44 (reset input) is THE SAME PAD as the reset input shown in the
diagram of the KB_INPUT module shown at the bottom of the page.
In other words, remove the PAD, IBUF and KB_READER from the block
diagram. Replace them with the KB_INPUT module. Then, connect the reset
input to the encrypter AND decrypter units.
If you have any questions regarding this, please mail the group and I will
get back to you as soon as I can.
Furthermore, I had some general comments:
1. I have heard a rumor that some students are not reading the lab and
doing the prelab before coming to the lab. The prelab readings and
excersises must be completed BEFORE going to the lab. Furthermore, if
there are things that are unclear to you when you read through the lab,
try to figure them out. If you can't please send email to this group so
you can get an answer BEFORE you go to the lab.
2. Whenever you encounter difficulties that you cannot resolve quickly,
don't sit on it and try to solve it yourself. Talk to you fellow students
(without giving away you entire design!), and post to this group. Even if
you solve the problem a little later, there are probably many people with
the same problem, or they may encounter the problem later. Let's get the
problems out into the open so they can be solved quickly, and for
everyone!
3. If anything is confusing or unclear, we need to hear about it. Please
be as specific as possible. This is not only for your benefit, and ours,
but also for future students. Remember, this is the first time this
hardware, software and set of labs has been used here, so we are still
working out bugs. We really need your help to do this, since we are not
the ones in the labs working on the projects. Your help is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks.
(Remember, we can't help you unless you ask!)

...Then what the heck was that other piece of code we changed?"
