Please check this page regularly.
Unclaimed works (assignments/tests) are in the boxes outside my office.
Important: I have submitted the marks and I cannot change them. If you calculate the mark yourself you realize that your final mark is actually more than what the formula would say (i.e. it is already curved). So please do not send me e-mail and ask for more marks, as I won't reply to such requests.
I have done all the remarkings and have posted the **unofficial** final marks. Your official mark will be posted on ROSI.
Enjoy the rest of summer!
I have remarked all the assignments/tests I had for remarking and posted the updated marks.
As I have said several times, I will wait to see all the marks before deciding if I want to scale the marks or not. I have no intention at the moment. So Please do NOT ask me if I am going to curve the marks or not.
I have posted the solutions to term test 3.
Marks for assignment 3 and term test 3 have been posted. You can pick up your
assignment and test from the boxes outside my office. I will post the solutions
to term test 3 later tonight (after the term test for the other section).
The overall average for assignments is 60.9% and for the tests is 64.2%. The averages you
see online are not quite correct (they include the marks for students that have dropped the
course).
There was a typo in the first solution to Q5 in A3. I have fixed it and posted the updated solutions.
I have posted a new version of solutions to Assignment 3. It now contains two different solutions to the last questions (both of which are correct). Study both of these solutions and see how there can be totally different reductions from different languages for one question. Also the solution for the k-Clique 2k-IS is slightly modified.
I have posted the solutions for Assignment 3.
There will be an office hour on Friday August 8, 4-6pm in SF3207. There will be an office hour by the instructor of the other section on Monday August 11 in the afternoon. Check the webpage for that section for the exact time and location.
There will be an office hour for A3 tomorrow at 5-6 in SF3207.
Important: In question 1(c) of assignment 3, the instance is a graph G and a positive integer k. The updated version of assignment is now posted.
Tutorial notes for Week 7 are posted.
I have remarked all the remarking requests (for A1 and T1) myself. The updated marks are posted. Note that your mark may have increased, decreased, or not changed. In particular, many students had remarking requests for Q5 of A1, where their solution is absolutely wrong (although they think it is correct). Your mark for this question may have decreased if you were awarded too high a mark.
I have posted the marks for term test 2. If you do not see any of your marks (for an assignment or test) please let me know and also bring that piece of work (assignment/test) to me either tomorrow during the office hour or next week in the lecture.
Important: I have extended the deadline for assignment 3: it is due Tuesday July 29 at the begining of the lecture (6:10pm sharp). Because of this, Term test 3 will be held the week after that (Tuesday August 6) in the tutorial.
I will have an office hour tomorrow (Thursday) 5-6PM in SF3207. There will be another office hour by the TA who will mark assignment 3 next week, Thursday July 24, 5-6PM in SF3207.
I will post the marks for test 2 later today. For those of you who have submitted a remarking request: I will update the marks by the end of this week (before the deadline for the drop date).
Assignment 3 has been posted.
I have posted the marks for assignment 2. If you don't see your mark online wait for a few days (until next lecture) and then contact me. I have also posted the comments I got from the TA who marked this assignment.
Marks for term test 2 will be posted when they are ready (which may not be before the drop date).
I have posted the solutions to term test 2. I will post assignment 3 by the end of this week.
For term test 2 you must study everything that was not included in term test 1 up to (and including) the definition of NP, but it will not include NP-Completeness (that is, for NP it will be the first 3 pages of lecture notes online).
For those of you who have asked me about the date of final exam: I don't know the exam date and even if I know, by University rules, I cannot tell it to you. So wait until it is posted on the website of Faculty of A&S.
I have posted the solutions to assignment 2.
I have posted the marking scheme for test 1 (check tests page).
There will be an office hour tomorrow 5-6 in SF3207 and another office hour (by myself) on Monday July 7, 3:30-5 in SF3207.
I will post the solutions to assignment 2 soon (before test 2).
I will not be able to check my e-mails starting tonight until next Monday. If you have any questions about the assignment you can take them to the office hour today.
I have left the unclaimed assignments/tests in a box outside my office (SF3208).
The following students should contact me (by e-mail or drop by my office today): Jagraj Dhariwal, Vikaas Gupta. If you are comming to my office please bring your assignment 1, too.
I have posted the marks for term test 1.
There will be an office hour this Thursday at 5-6 in SF3207.
Remember: There will be no lecture next Tuesday, BUT there will be a lecture on Wednesday (instead) from 4-6 in BA1190.
I have posted the tutorial notes for week 6.
I have posted the comments and marking scheme for assignment 1 I received from the TA who marked the assignment (see assignments page). Please read these comments carefully before submitting any remarking request.
After a piece of work is returned to you (assignment/test) please check your mark online to make sure that your mark is stored correctly in my files. It is your responsibility to notify me of any mistake immediately.
I have posted the marks for assignment 1. The initial password for accessing your grades is your student number. You can change this password. You will get back your assignments in your tutorial today.
Imporant: Before submitting a remarking request read the policy about this on the main page of the course.
Assignment 2 has been posted. Note that we have only covered the materials required to solve Q1.
Assignment 2 will be posted soon (later this week).
I have posted the solutions to term test 1.
There was a typo in the solution to Q5 in assignment 1. It has been fixed now and the updated solution is posted.
I have also posted the tutorial notes for week 3.
For term test 1 you should read all the materials (online notes,
lecture notes, and tutorial notes) for Greedy Algorithms and Dynamic
programming. The questions on the test will be similar to the questions
you had in Assignment 1.
There will be an extra office hour on Monday June 9, 3:30-5 in SF3207.
Solutions to assignment 1 have been posted. I have also posted the solution to the change making problem discussed in Tutorial 2. Hopefully I will post the tutorial notes for this week before the weekend.
Remember: Term test 1 will be held next week in your tutorial.

There will be an extra office hour on Thursday May 29, 5-6, SF3207.
Weekly office hours will be held in SF3207 from 4-5.
Assignment a has been posted.
