About

Yanqing is a second-year master's student working on reinforcement learning and robotics with Dr. Randy Goebel and Dr. Hengshuai Yao. 

Fun Facts 

I enjoy playing sports and video games, and learning new (human) languages. Also a big fan of detective shows. 

Role

Collaborating with the President on all matters of business is the primary responsibility of the Vice-President. In order to establish the goals of CSGSA for the current term, the Vice-President works in conjunction with the President. Their tasks include setting high-level plans and scheduling events, as well as managing event-related tasks such as submissions. The Vice-President is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of each event and supporting other executives in organizing their activities. In the event that the President is absent or unable to perform their duties, the Vice-President assumes the role of President. 

About

I'm a MSc student in Computing Science at the U of A. I started my program in January 2023. I'm currently supervised by Matt Taylor and my research interests are mostly around Reinforcement Learning and in particular algorithms that encourage agents to seek skills that set them free of the tyranny of domain knowledge.

Managing the day-to-day finances of the association and opening smooth communication channels between the CSGSA and other institutions. it is also my responsibility to oversee budget management for events, handling the association's bank account, and seeking funding from various sources. 

About

I am a first year masters student, my focus of research currently is in the domain of low computation based computer vision.

I was in rock band in high school and i toured several cities in india perfroming gigs in music festivals and rock competitions.

My role as the Director of Academics is to organize academic events in the department and promote academic opportunities to the students. My other responsibilities include managing and assigning office spaces to graduate students and developing a fair and inclusive buddy list.

About 

I am an MSc Computing Science student at the University of Alberta. I have a passion for all things related to computers and have tried my hands in many different sub-fields of software engineering during my previous internships. Currently, I am focusing on research on the privacy and fairness of machine learning algorithms as I believe it is a very important and often overlooked topic.

I can't make it through a movie and usually sleep after about 20-25 minutes (not sure if it's a fun fact or a sad fact 😅).

Mahdieh is a second-year master's student with research interests in program synthesis and a strong desire to actively work toward creating an inclusive environment for all graduate students. :)

After much introspection and a few all-nighters, I've realized that my fun facts, in a groundbreaking act of solidarity with Schroedinger's cat, exist in a state of quantum superposition - they're simultaneously fascinating and non-existent! Yes, my life in the world of computing science has been so thrilling that my fun facts have coded themselves into an alternate reality. Stay tuned as we are going to navigate this mysterious codebase! :D 

Role

My role tries to create a bridge between Turing Society & EDI Committee and the CSGSA as well as oversee that the CSGSA remains an inclusive organization for all students. The lead of diversity and inclusion is accountable for ensuring that events are inclusive to everyone. 

Role

This role mainly involves responding to enquires from intersted students via email and other channels. The Publicity Director also maintains the CSGSA website by updating the front page with upcoming events and posting other items, such as photos from group events.

Jia is a passionate first-year master's student specializing in Internertworking with a keen interest in the field of cybersecurity. 

Fun Facts

I consider myself a versatile individual with a range of interests. On the playground, you'll often find me engaging in sports like badminton, basketball or ping pong. In the dance studio, my chosen type is Jazz. Recently, I've taken up swimming as a beginner. It's a journey of self-discovery and physical fitness. My adaptability for trying new things defines my approach to life, always seeking new experiences and opportunities to learn and grow.

The VP of External Relations and Partnerships seeks to build relationships with local companies and organizations, propose joint events with such organizations and find new sources of funding.

My role as a Director at Large involves supporting all the Executives in their functions and duties. Additionally, I'm responsible for maintaining and replenishing supplies in the student lounges, ensuring a well-equipped environment for students. 

About 

Devipriya is currently pursuing her second-year master's in Computer Vision, mentored by Dr. Ray and Dr. Kumar. In addition to her academic pursuits, she serves as a WTM Ambassador, championing the cause of encouraging more women and young girls to delve into AI.

I dabble in digital art and photography during my spare time. Hiking and venturing into less explored paths are among my favorite pursuits.
